It has come to our notice that Lightwater Valley Shoot will be shooting wildfowl in the Pennycroft area on Saturday afternoons from 4pm onwards during the Autumn and Winter months.
Unfortunately, as well as the obvious devastating effect this has on the ducks and geese on Pennycroft, it also has health and safety implications for High Batts members, as shooting is sometimes in the direction of the Reserve. Indeed, last Saturday the car windscreen of one of our trustees was damaged by shot coming over the boundary fence to the top car park.
We therefore have to reluctantly instruct members to exit the Reserve by 3pm on Saturdays for the forseeable future.
We have written to Heidelberg to express our concerns and are seeking further conversations with the Lightwater Valley Shoot to try to resolve this issue.
